To achieve a sturdy fabric suitable for long-wear, yarn is knit to a firm tension. If you are using alternative yarns to make gauge, be it held double or single strand, it is important that the fabric is tight and a bit stiff. Hardy wools such as Briggs and Little, as well as acrylic blends, are ideal for this project.
