One 2 hr session

10am – Noon

Teacher: Ash Kearns

One of the technical cornerstones of the knitting craft, understanding gauge will help you purchase yarn, make garments that fit and bring more predictability to your craft. In this interactive class, we will learn about our own unique tension, how to interpret pattern/designer gauge information, and how to purchase the right yarn for your project with confidence. Participants are asked to bring a pattern they would like to knit to class. This class will be best with a good mix of new knitters and the more experienced. There is something to learn for everyone in Gauge 101!

Pre-requisites: None. Complete beginners welcome.

Cost: $30 plus tax and materials.

Fair Isle Cowl…Eeeek A Steek!

Wednesday, March 4 and 18

Two 2hr sessions

7pm – 9pm

Teacher: Ash Kearns
Have you tried fairisle (stranded) knitting and were not happy with the results? Would you like to take your color work skills to the next level? In this two session workshop, we will knit a nifty fitted cowl in traditional fareisle motifs and learn the basics of effective stranded knitting. We will also be setting up this project for our next lesson: STEEKING!

In the second session, we will use the steeking method to CUT open our cowl and insert a button band. After this class you will be ready to bravely take on larger steeked projects, like that fairisle sweater
you’ve been hesitant to make because you don’t want to weave in all those ends!
Skills required; Knitting in the round, some understanding of fairisle (stranded) knitting

Cost $40.00 plus tax and Materials

Oops! Fixing Mistakes

Saturday March 28

One 2hr session

10am – Noon

Teacher: Ash Kearns

The MOST frequently asked question knitters ask is , “How do I fix my mistakes!?!” We all have those moments where we must decide to tink, rip back or frog a project entirely.   Fixing mistakes comes with practice and that’s what this class is designed to give you. We will go over some of the most common knitting errors and how to fix them.  By then end of this class, you will be prepared to rip your stitches off the needle at any given moment! Elizabeth Zimmerman said “be the boss of your knitting”, telling us that, with enough time and practice, we can tame our work into submission.  With this in mind, we will cheer each other on and better establish the mind set needed for tackling present and future knitting challenges!  BE THE BOSS of your knitting and take this class!

Pre-requisites: Basic knitting, stitch recognition

Cost: $30 plus tax and materials.

Intro to Beads- Winter’s Last Breath

Pattern by Ash Kearns

Saturday, April 4 and 18

Two 2 hr sessions

10am – Noon

Teacher: Ash Kearns

Winter’s Last Breath is a shawl that features the simple beauty of garter stitch contrasted with a delicate beaded lace border.

This project is ideal for newer lace knitters as well as those who are new to adding beads to their work. Because the body of the shawl is all knit, this allows focused learning on the repeated lace edge. Beads are placed using the “add-as-you-go” method, with crochet hook or thin wire. You will discover just how simple it is to add a little glimmer to your lace work!

Cost: $45 plus tax and materials.

Finishing 101

Saturday, April 11

One 2 hr session

10am – Noon

Teacher: Ash Kearns

Learn how the professionals get that perfect finish to their knitted garments! No need to have a sweater to work on for this class- We will be completing a swatch exercise that will cover seaming, shoulder bind-offs, picking-up stitches along various edge types and grafting (kitchener stitch).  In the first class, we will learn “the rules”.  In the second class, we will explore all the ways these rules are combined for best practice finishing.  Participants are asked to come prepared with their knitted swatches to be “finished” in class time (instruction available at All Strung Out with registration).

Pre-requisites: Basic knitting, stitch recognition, increases and decreases
